Understanding Attestations
How verified badges on your profile unlock more opportunities on Terac.
Attestations are verified badges on your profile. They prove you meet certain criteria, and some opportunities require specific ones before you can apply.
What Are Attestations?
When a researcher sets up a study, they can require that applicants have certain verified attributes. For example, a study might require a verified government ID, or it might only be open to people who've connected a LinkedIn profile. Attestations are how Terac signals that you've cleared those checks.
The more attestations you have, the more opportunities you'll be eligible to apply to.
Available Attestations
Government ID
This is the most important attestation on Terac. Most opportunities require it, and without it your applications will be locked.
To verify your government ID, go to terac.com/me/settings/identity and click Start Verification. You'll be guided through an ID check powered by Persona, our verification partner. You'll need:
- A photo of a valid government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, or national ID)
- A short selfie for face matching
Verification typically completes within a few minutes. Once it's done, the attestation appears on your profile automatically.
Persona is a secure, third-party verification service. Terac does not store images of your ID.
You can also complete ID verification during onboarding. Either way, once it's done, it's done for all opportunities.
Phone
Your phone number is verified during onboarding. You enter your number, receive a 6-digit code by SMS, and enter it to confirm. Once verified, your phone becomes an attestation on your profile.
If you need to update or reverify your phone number, go to terac.com/me/settings/identity.
Social Profile
Connecting your LinkedIn or Facebook account adds a social profile attestation to your profile. It confirms you have an active professional presence online and helps researchers target the right audience.
To connect a social account, go to terac.com/me/settings/identity and link LinkedIn or Facebook under Linked Accounts. You can also do this during the Connect Profiles step in onboarding.
This attestation is optional and doesn't block you from applying to most opportunities. Some studies, however, specifically require a connected social profile.
How Attestations Affect Opportunities
When you open an opportunity's detail panel, you'll see a requirements checklist. If you're missing a required attestation, the checklist shows what's needed and links directly to where you can complete it.
Once you meet all the requirements, the Start Application button unlocks.
FAQ
Do I have to redo attestations for each opportunity?
No. Attestations are reused across all opportunities. If you've completed government ID verification for one study, it counts for every other study too.
What if my ID verification fails?
Common reasons for failure:
- The photo is blurry or partially cut off
- The ID is expired
- The selfie doesn't closely match the ID photo
- The ID type isn't supported
Try again with a clearer photo or a different ID. If problems persist, contact support.
Do attestations expire?
Government ID verification is tied to your ID document. If your ID expires, you may need to reverify. You'll be notified if that's the case.
If I live in a country different from my citizenship, which ID should I use?
Use an ID issued by your country of residence. Persona can flag a mismatch if you verify with a foreign ID while living elsewhere.
What's Next?
Once your attestations are in order, you're ready to apply to opportunities.
